Founded in 1941, the Ram Island Yacht Club is a family-oriented association of members who share a mutual enjoyment of boating in a picturesque Noank waterfront setting.
Ram Island sponsors and supports boating, social, instructional, and educational events including the annual “Ram Island Regatta” and two junior regattas.
The club traditionally has promoted sailing and seamanship through a strong junior sailing program. Training progresses from beginner classes and can advance to competitive opportunities in Optimists, Lasers, Blue Jays and Club 420s. Junior sailing classes are available to members as well as non-member children who are sponsored by a club member.
The club facilities include a two story club house overlooking the Mystic River, a 300’ fixed deep water dock, floating docks, launch ramp, and space for launches and dinghies to access nearby moorings in the Mystic River. The club also maintains daysailers, kayaks, and paddleboards for use by members and their guests.
Throughout the year, there are several club social functions, all of which are organized and hosted by volunteers. Thursday night barbeques on our terrace overlooking the Mystic River are very popular! The clubhouse is available to members and guests for special events.
Volunteerism is a hallmark of RIYC. Annually, club members commission and decommission the club, lend their talents and time to the maintenance and enhancement of the club’s facilities, and support its many social events.
